Colossians 1:9-14. John Calvin once noted that "the whole world, with all it's pretended wisdom and righteousness, is regarded as nothing but darkness in the sight of God, because apart from the kingdom of Christ, there is no light." The good news of the gospel stands in start contrast to the "zombie spirituality" of this world--a type of vain religiosity that leaves one never feeling quite alive in this life; always fumbling about in ignorance; feasting but never full; wandering but without real resolution as to where one stands with God. Here, Paul reminds the Colossians that they have been rescued from the darkness and brought into the light of Christ!
